Council tax rankings
Every council ranked on its 2026/27 figures, from official statistics.
Rankings compare Band D, the standard measure every council publishes. Each nation is ranked separately: Wales values homes on 2003 prices and Scotland uses different band fractions, so the same Band D figure doesn't mean the same thing across borders. England and Wales figures include the average parish or community council charge; Scottish figures exclude water and sewerage, which are the same everywhere in Scotland.
Most homes aren't in Band D, so a council can rank high on Band D but still be cheaper for a typical home if most of its homes are in low bands. Each council page shows how many homes are in each band.
