About

Council tax for every council in England, Scotland and Wales, in one place, from official figures.

Council Tax Rates shows what council tax costs in each of the 350 councils that set it: every band, the monthly cost, what changed this year, where the money goes, parish rates, premiums on second and empty homes and, in Scotland, water and sewerage charges. There's a calculator for your own bill and a tool to compare two councils.

Independent

This site is independent. It is not run by, or affiliated with, any council, the UK government, the Welsh Government, the Scottish Government or Scottish Water. To pay, check your exact bill or apply for a discount, use your council's own website, which each council page links to.

Where the figures come from

Government statistics and councils' own published decisions, cited on every page with the date we checked them. See the methodology and sources.

When figures change

Council tax is set once a year. Councils agree the next year's charges in February and early March; Scottish Water announces its charges in January or February; the official statistics follow in March (England's around 25 March). New bills start on 1 April. We update each council's page as its new charges are confirmed, and replace them with the official statistics when those are published. Second-home and empty-home premiums are re-checked every spring against each council's own decision.

Accuracy and corrections

We check figures against each publication and update them each year as councils set new rates. Your own bill can differ because of your parish, discounts or premiums. If something looks wrong, please tell us with a link to the official source.
